When you’re deciding whether to hire a law firm, the practical questions matter as much as the credentials: Who picks up the phone? What happens after that first call? How will you know work is actually being done on your case? Here’s exactly how we handle those questions.
Who Answers When You Call
Your call goes to our receptionist or our 24-hour rotating answering service. Whether you call during business hours, late at night, or on a weekend, someone will answer, gather the details of your situation, and identify the type of case you have. That person then contacts a partner at our firm directly—so you hear back from someone with authority over your case, not a case manager or intake coordinator.
What Happens in That First Conversation
A partner will call or text you shortly after that initial contact. We give clients a direct cell phone number from the start. From there, we talk through the circumstances of your case—by phone or in person—to evaluate whether we’re a good fit for each other. If we decide to move forward, we begin representation.
How Representation Starts
Once you’ve chosen to work with us, the first paperwork is handled electronically through a short DocuSign document. We then add your case to our practice management system and set you up with Clio, an app that gives us a dedicated place to communicate throughout your case.
After representation begins, we can take these initial steps:
- Notify the court that we represent you.
- Request discovery—evidence that must be provided to our firm.
- Begin dealing with the prosecutors involved in the case.
How We Stay in Contact
Questions don’t stop once the paperwork is signed, and neither does our communication. You can message us through Clio or text the partner’s cell number directly. We aim to respond the same day, usually within a few hours. Keeping clients informed throughout their case isn’t something we treat as optional—it’s how we work.
What You Can Expect as the Case Moves Forward
Legal cases involve unfamiliar procedures, real decisions, and genuine uncertainty. We can’t promise a particular outcome—no attorney can—but we can make sure you always know what’s happening and what comes next. Our goal is simple: you should never have to wonder whether work is being done on your case. If you’d like to talk through your situation, reach us at (512) 359-3743.
